The Park is named after John Muir, the explorer, naturalist and conservationist who was born in Dunbar in 1838. He lived here until the age of 11, when the Muir family immigrated to the United States, where they settled in Wisconsin.
John Muir Country Park covers some of the most spectacular East Lothian coastline and is a haven for wildlife and people too. From the Castle Ruins in Dunbar, to the Peffer Burn six kilometres to the north, the Park includes the Cliff Top Trail, with fine views of the sea and the historic Bass Rock; the long sandy sweep of Belhaven Bay; the River Tyne estuary; and extensive areas of grassland, salt-marsh and woodland.

The Scottish Seabird Centre is a five star, multi award winning, family attraction overlooking the sea at North Berwick. Open all year round, it has an exciting discovery centre with live cameras to view puffins, gannets, seals and more. The Scottish Seabird Centre also has a Wildlife Theatre, 3DTV, fish tanks plus a Kid's corner and Kid's zone. There is also a well stocked gift shop.

If you'd like to try something new, The Scottish Archery Centre at Fenton Barns will open by arrangement. Visitors can try archery, crossbow and air rifle, all indoors under supervision and instruction.

One of Scotland’s leading surf sport schools, Coast to Coast Surf School operates with a team of experienced instructors offering a wide range of quality lessons and courses in the sports of Surfing, Bodyboarding, Stand Up Paddling and Coasteering.
Open March to November and run daily lesson and hire sessions from their Dunbar and Belhaven locations (East Lothian) seven days a week! For the more adventurous they also run Scottish surf tours to the most remote edges of Scotland’s beautiful and varied coastline.
